- Type Racer - compete against others online in a typing race! race against strangers, against yourself, or against your friends! when im bored and cant think of litterally anything else to do, its typing racer time.
- Vimm's Lair - a website dedicated to video game preservation! scroll through their archives of video game reviews, retro full-color manuals, and archived video games and explore a slice of video gaming history.
- Archive.org - speaking of archives, here's the internet archive! they have just about everything you could be looking for, from books and comics to in-browser playable archives of MS-DOS games like Doom, Wolfenstein, Rayman and SimCity, and here is a list of in-browser playable archives of old coin-op arcade games like Tetris, Pacman, Street Fighter, and even obscure clasics like the cabinet version of Sonic 2 and the Dungeons and Dragons arcade game! (tip: look in the comments or archive descriptions for what buttons do what, especially for what button inserts coins in the arcade archives!)
Downloadables
- RetroArch - have *legally aquired copies of your purchased game roms* and no hardware to play them on? say hello to RetroArch! this is an all-in-one video game emulation suite that can get you up and running with basically any pre-Nintendo 3DS generation video game. download it for free, look up a tutorial for your respective console you'd like to emulate, and have fun!
IRL
- Learn to fold a paper crane - trust me, it really is fun! origami in general is a fun way to keep your hands busy crafting for cheap and get something cute out of it. you might say, "auden, this technically isn't for totally free, since you need paper!", and to that I say... improvise! beleive me, i've made plenty of paper cranes out of toilet paper. as long as you can make it a square and you can fold it semi-easily, skys the limit.
- Learn to play almost any card game - if you have a deck of playing cards, this site has a huge collection of different games you can play and lets you sort based on how many players and what age is playing!
- Play Dungeons and Dragons (5e) - dungeons and dragons 5e is one of my all-time favorite TTRPGS and one i recommend to people who want to get into tabletops with their friends but don't know where to start! there's tons (and i mean tons) of resources on how to play online or in person, but if you just need a quick resource on any rule you could possibly need, 5e tools is a great website!
